Tropical North Queensland Continues to be Massively Popular with Overseas Visitors

Some relatively recent statistics make interesting and informative reading.

According to the Queensland Government’s own statistical office, in 2013-14 this part of the world received almost three-quarters of a million visitors. That makes it one of Australia’s main destinations for overseas holidaymakers and it’s not hard to see why.

True, the weather is a big factor. It doesn’t matter what nationality you are, if you want to go on holiday and experience cold and grim weather, then the chances are you will head to the ski slopes in one part of the world or another. By contrast, if it’s your main summer break, you want to be sure of getting good warm weather.

Yet there’s so much more than just the sunshine and the warmth. The unique mix here of coastal and wild countryside attractions means that there is something for everybody. In fact, it’s easy to vary your type of holiday because you can be on the beach one minute and then exploring the virtually untouched rainforest the next.

Many visitors are also hugely impressed with the sheer quality of hotels and apartments along the coast, including those such as our very own Trinity Beach accommodation. The days when holidaymakers would tolerate second-rate and lacklustre accommodation are now long gone. Their demands are high and Tropical North Queensland can deliver against them.

So, whether you are an Australian reading this or someone overseas contemplating a visit, why not try for yourself the magnificent attractions of locations such as Cairns, Palm Cove and Port Douglas?. Let us help you find a holiday that will show you the best of this part of the country and we guarantee that you’ll be looking to come back here as soon as possible for your next holiday!

Fancy some Trail Bike Adventures?

In the area in and around Cairns, you can find some great opportunities to put yourself through your paces on some demanding trail bike courses.

Now it’s true that off road biking is something you either love the thought of or are perhaps terrified by.  If it is something that appeals to you though, all you really need is an appropriate licence and a pair of socks!  Some of the off-road bike experience companies can provide just about everything else for you.

If you are worried that this sounds like an efficient recipe for suicide, then don’t be.  The coaches are experts and nobody is going to try and ask you to take on more than you are capable of.  Courses are designed for all levels of ability ranging from first-timers right up to national championship levels.

Here at FNQ Apartments, we know of opportunities in the Cairns region, Cape York and the Appleton Tablelands.

Will you enjoy it?  Well, over the years we have seen many people try and the vast majority have not only loved it but they were desperate for more at the end of it!

Of course, we can’t speak for the individual companies concerned but generally you will need to be able to ride a bike, be reasonably physically fit and mobile plus have a can-do and adventurous inclination.  If your idea of excitement is sitting on the beach and playing chess, not that there’s anything wrong with that, then you might find off-road trail biking to be a little bit too demanding!

This is just one of the many things to do around our part of the world that involves experiencing nature to the full and testing yourself against your own views of what you are capable of.

That’s one of the big advantages of taking your holidays in Far North Queensland and why we love it here!

Avoiding Tummy Troubles on Holiday

One of the big advantages of holidaying in Australia as opposed to certain overseas destinations is that there may be less concern about things such as health and hygiene.

However, there are a few basic things to keep in mind when you are taking your annual holiday, wherever that happens to be.

1. Take it easy with the sun and cold drinks over the first day or two.  The heat of a tropical climate is something that your body needs to acclimatise to over a couple of days.  Arriving and immediately over-indulging with iced drinks and richer food than you are perhaps normally used to, can sometimes cause your body to switch on the amber warning light!

2. Strangely, the instant removal of stress and tension is also something that your body can occasionally encounter some difficulties in dealing with.  So, try to avoid simply crashing onto a sun lounger and staying largely dormant the first day or two.  Try to get some exercise and keep yourself active until you’ve got used to your peaceful and tranquil surroundings and your normal-life stresses have evaporated away gently.

3. Be careful with the alcohol.  This is always good advice at any time but there may be a tendency on holiday to immediately start to over-consume and that again can cause your stomach to object if it’s not used to it.

Of course, we’re not qualified doctors.  If you are ever feeling unwell with a stomach complaint that seems persistent, you should get your symptoms checked by a health care professional. Don’t self-diagnose!

At FNQ Apartments, all of our Port Douglas, Palm Cove and Trinity Beach accommodation is of the very highest quality. You’ll be able to enjoy it and this beautiful area all the more if you adopt some of the above common-sense practices.

Cairns accommodation versus Port Douglas accommodation – a comparison

At FNQ Apartments we love all of Far North Queensland and are entirely unbiased in terms of the respective merits and attractions of Cairns versus Port Douglas.

Yet we’re sometimes asked to comment on this and related issues, so we’ll make a few general observations that might help you to choose either Cairns accommodation or that up in Port Douglas.

Cairns

This is the area’s longest established holiday destination and for that reason, the most developed.

It has a thriving local community and economy in which tourism plays an important but not exclusive part.

Cairns accommodation, depending upon what you select, will place you into a vibrant and cosmopolitan town with a host of facilities and developments designed to support the visitor and of course, the local Cairns population. That means your holiday here will feel something of a dynamic but low-key urban environment.

Port Douglas

Here, the prevailing cultural feel is rather more small-town in nature.

Getting away from it all and exotic relaxation is the order of the day. Port Douglas doesn’t try to be a major and exciting urban hub. It’s much more about isolation and close encounters with nature in all its glory.

There are some great restaurants, nice shops and some lovely markets here plus of course some fantastic beaches.

For some, it may lack a little of the ‘buzz’ of Cairns but that can be more than compensated for by the feeling that you’re close to being alone in your own little piece of paradise.

Which is for you?

Port Douglas is only about 50 minutes from Cairns International Airport – so here’s a radical idea.

Why not try both?

Spend a few days in Port Douglas then move on to your Cairns accommodation– or the other way round if you wish. That way to can experience the plus points of both and you’ll know which you prefer for your next trip to Far North Queensland!
