Top Tips for Sun Protection

Yes, we know we’ve touched on this before but we like to issue a periodic reminder!
So, once again, our top tips for spending time in the sun safely (but keep in mind, many of these also apply when you’re at home):

  1. When you first arrive on holiday take it easy in terms of the amount of time you spend in the full sun. Build up slowly over a few days – particularly if you’re very fair skinned.

  2. Use a heavy duty barrier cream and top it up regularly.
  1. Don’t assume that because you’re in the water you can’t get burned – you can. Always use a water-resistant sun barrier cream.
  1. Remember that it’s also possible to get burned when it’s cloudy (depending upon the exact conditions). So, a few clouds around don’t mean that the barrier cream can be missed.
  1. Whether you’re already heavily tanned or naturally dark-skinned, don’t believe for a moment that you can’t get burned because you can.
  1. Don’t spend hours laying in the sun, even with creams. Take regular rests in the shade – there’s plenty of it around in luxurious places like the water features at the Sea Temple Palm Cove or Port Douglas. Make use of it.
  1. Keep yourself well hydrated but don’t drink gallons of water without taking some food or other sustenance in order to keep your electrolytes in balance etc.
  1. However good you look in your swimming cozzie, remember to throw some light cotton clothes over the top when you’re out and about. It’ll help protect your skin from the sun when you’re not intentionally “taking a few rays”.
  1. Keep an eye on the kids. Youngsters often have no sense at all that they’re overdoing it a bit in the sun because all their attention is concentrated on the entertainment.
Enjoy the sun but treat it with respect!
Happy Holidays

Don’t Forget Port Douglas Market

One of the big attractions of Port Douglas is its sense of natural beauty, calm and isolation.
This really is a tropical paradise getaway for those who like to think that the worst of civilization is a long, LONG way away over the horizon. The area has a certain relaxed, Bohemian and slightly ‘alternative’ lifestyle that our guests love.
However, much as we might all love to play the desert island castaway, the reality is that most of us also like to sneak back to the modern world a bit from time to time. Staying at our Sea Temple Port Douglas luxury accommodation, you’ll be able to do exactly that!
One great place to visit to remember what society is all about is the weekly Port Douglas Markets.
They were established around 25 years back and are a great local tradition now every Sunday. Shortly after the market was founded, the local council declared it to be a “Cotter’s Market”.  The term Cotter goes back to Mediaeval English and originally referred to someone (a peasant or ‘villein’) who was tied to the land, legally speaking.

OK, we’re digressing – the point is that today’s Cotter’s market definition means that stallholders must be the ones who produced their wares. So, you’ll see the very best of local fruit, vegetables, other foodstuffs and crafts. It’s fantastic fun to not only look and perhaps buy but also to get the chance to talk to the people who produced the goods on sale.

Sea Temple Palm Cove vs Sea Temple Port Douglas — Which is the Best?

Did you know there is a Sea Temple in Palm Cove as well as Port Douglas? Yes, it is true, we are lucky enough to have 2 of them, but knowing that now, how do you choose. They are both at the top of the tree for best Resorts in Palm Cove or Port Douglas.

Here are my tips on how I would choose.
The first thing to know is that Sea Temple Resort & Spa Port Douglas is around a 7 minute drive to the town area while Sea Temple Palm Cove is less than 10 minutes walk and if you walk along the beach, even quicker. For many people therefore, it is just easier to hire a car to make getting in and out of the Port Douglas town easier. However, there is a paid shuttle service to the town area and if you buy a pass for the length of time you are there, the price will be very reasonable. That is, don’t just use the single trip or one day option. Ask for the prices for longer stays and save yourself some money to spend on cocktails by the pool!!
The distance from town is also the distance to the patrolled swimming area and the only place to swim. So if you fancy a dip in the sea, you have just a short walk up the beach at Palm Cove but well over an hour walk at Port Douglas.
If you stay at Sea Temple Port Douglas and use the shuttle bus, be sure to stop off at the Sheraton Mirage and have a stroll around, a drink at their pool bar and you could even walk along the beach for the rest of your journey.
When you arrive at the Sea Temples — either Palm Cove or Port Douglas you will be struck by the lovely architecture and the magnificence of the Port Cochere and reception areas. At Sea Temple Port Douglas though, there is one little bonus. Once arrived to the entry, you are able to gaze through reception and over the full length of the pool to the pool bar and on a sunny day this is truly delightful. I would say the reception area at Port Douglas is just slightly more magnificent.
Both of the Resorts are located on the beachfront and in both cases there is natural bushland between the Resort and the beach. At Sea Temple Palm Cove you will be just a few moments walk from anywhere in the Resort to standing on the beach. At Sea Temple Port Douglas you will have a 5 minute walk to get to the beach. Once on the beach, you will find the beach at Port Douglas wide and flat and fabulous for walking or riding bikes on. So hire yourself a bike to get to and from town. The beach at Palm Cove, while beautiful and also long, is not so pleasing for a walk as it slopes and you get a bit lopsided. Just kidding, lots of people walk this beach.
Now to compare the pools. Put simply, Pullman Sea Temple Port Douglas Resort & Spa has one of the best swimming pools in the Southern Hemisphere and it is by far the better pool when compared to the Grande Lagoon Pool at the Pullman Palm Cove Sea Temple Resort & Spa.
Finally, Sea Temple Resort Port Douglas is a much larger Resort that Sea Temple Resort Palm Cove. That said, the facilities available are very similar. They both have a poolside bar, an additional bar, restaurant, exercise room, day spa and great pool facilities.
Both of these lovely Resorts have the same to offer by way of enjoying tours and such likes. Tour and transfer operators pick up from both making your holiday as easy as possible
So there you are folks, this is the information you need to decide — Sea Temple Palm Cove or Sea Temple Port Douglas. They are both wonderful options for Palm Cove accommodation or Port Douglas accommodation.
The only thing to do now is give us a ring — 1300 731 620 — to find out about availability for your Palm Cove or Port Douglas holiday.

Sea Temple Palm Cove – Beachfront & Beautiful

In Palm Cove there are only 2 Resorts which are truly beachfront and Sea Temple Palm Cove Resort & Spa is one of them. From anywhere in the Resort until you are on the beach can be no longer than 5 minutes (unless you stop to watch the water bubbling along the stream) making it one of the best Resorts in Palm Cove and one of my favourites.

Beachfront is only one reason I love Sea Temple Palm Cove and here are the rest:-
  • It has a beautiful eastern feel to it with an expansive lobby and the water features at the entry and throughout the Resort. The lavish use of sandstone and the architecture along with the Porte Cochere create a luxurious ambience while the huge open doorways make you feel like you are outside all of the time.
  • There are 3 pools; the magnificent Grande Lagoon, a lap pool that is warmed in winter months and a decent sized kiddies pool where there are sun lounges for Mum and Dad as well.  In addition there are 2 spas so plenty of room for everyone.

  • Located right in the centre of these 3 pools is the much loved pool bar where you can order light dining as well as any number of cocktails, mocktails and wines your heart desires. You can lounge around there enjoying the great outdoors while sipping a late or indulge in my favourite and good cup of tea.
  • The pool bar is not your only option for a cold one though, the restaurant bar is truly delightful in the evenings when the flares are lit and you would think you were in another land. Relaxation is something that works well at Sea Temple Palm Cove Resort & Spa.

  • Then there are the rooms which range for Hotel type to 4 Bedroom Apartments as well as Swim Ups, Beachfront Villas and Roof Top Penthouses. When asked the best Apartment type it is hard to pick but the gong for the most popular must go to the Swim Ups.  These gorgeous Apartments are located on the Grande Lagoon Pool where you will have your own patio with child proof gate leading to your private pool deck and jumping into the water point.  From inside your Swim Up you can gaze over the pool as much as you like. Honestly, this is fabulous Palm Cove accommodation.
  • Then there are the Beachfront Villas which are spread over 2 levels and come with your own plunge pool. Or think Penthouse with spiral staircase to your Roof Top Terrace, Spa Bath and barbecue area. Here you have all the joy of being in the tree tops with the native birds fluffing their feathers nearby.

  • For those with small children, the Garden Courtyard Apartments are a bonus as there is room for the kiddies to play outside in the courtyard and some have gates leading to the children’s pool.
  • Sea Temple Palm Cove is also well located being in a quiet area of Palm Cove, right on the beach and just a stroll up the beach to Palm Cove village. Or in the other direction take a decent walk along to Clifton Beach and on to Kewarra Beach.
  • Then there is the Temple of Tastes restaurant which is widely regarded by the locals as one of the best and has never disappointed yet.
  • Once you arrive at Sea Temple Palm Cove, there really is no need to seek excitement elsewhere.  The Resort has everything you need to make yourself comfortable, get a drink in your hand and wind down.

So, just one last thing, have you ever been to the Pullman Palm Cove?  Do you love it as much as I do and think it can be recommended as one of the best Resorts in Palm Cove?
